Social Media and the Future of Small Businesses

May 15th, 2008

Social networking is an interesting topic, so whenever I hear about new ways people are using it I get a little excited. Listen to John Jantsch of Duct Tape Marketing.

John has been blogging about all things practical in marketing for the small business owner for years. After working with roughly 25,000 small business owners throughout his career, John has a pretty solid grasp of what they need.

What I find truly interesting is something he said to me for MarketingSherpa’s Fame newsletter. He says he is advising small business owners to create blogs on a platform like WordPress and just use that as their company’s website, too.

This eliminates the costs associated with hiring a website designer and launching and maintaining a site.

That’s perfect for small business owners who have little money or time for things like Internet marketing. What’s more, they’ve got their SEO built in because blogs are so searchable.
